Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has received the Distinguished Leadership Award in Engineering from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Glasgow Branch, in recognition of his contributions to engineering, technology and infrastructural development in the State.
The award was presented on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, United Kingdom, during an engineering convention attended by Nigerian engineers and professionals in the diaspora.
Hamzat, who was a distinguished guest of honour at the conference, was represented at the event by the Special Adviser, Office of Works, Engr. Dr. Adekunle Olayinka, FNSE, who received the award on his behalf.
Former National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Patron of NSE, Glasgow branch, Engr. Funmi Akingbagbohun, was also physically present at the event in support of the recognition bestowed on the Deputy Governor.
The honour, according to NSE, Glasgow, was in recognition of his outstanding performance and contributions to engineering in Lagos State, particularly in technology and governance, digital transformation, promotion of e-governance initiatives, infrastructural development and the modernisation of the state’s transportation system.
It described Hamzat’s contributions as having set a high standard in engineering and governance, noting that his commitment to excellence had made a positive impact on society and the nation.
The recognition also highlighted the growing engagement between Nigerian engineers in the diaspora and professionals contributing to the development of Lagos State.
Also present at the event was Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, alongside other Nigerian professionals and members of the engineering community in the United Kingdom.
