The Enugu State Police Command has recorded fresh operational successes following coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across the state.
This led to the arrest of four male suspects and the recovery of stolen mobile phones and suspected illicit substances.
In a statement detailing the operations, the Command said police operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch, carried out a raid on March 1, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., along the Holy Ghost Rail Line.
During the operation, two suspects identified as Nnachetam Didiugwu, 20, and Ogbu Maduabuchi, 22, both reportedly without fixed residential addresses, were arrested. The suspects are alleged to specialise in snatching bags and other valuables from unsuspecting members of the public.
Police recovered four mobile phones, including Honour, Vivo, Tecno and Itel brands, as well as wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. The suspects reportedly confessed to snatching the phones from passersby, particularly during evening hours.
In a related operation on February 28, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad stormed a criminal hideout at Eke Obinagu in Emene. Two additional suspects, Eze Chukwuemeka, 25, and Isiaka Musa, 25, were arrested, with a large quantity of dried weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa recovered from the scene.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining proactive operations aimed at ridding Enugu State of criminal elements.
He urged residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to promptly provide useful information to the police, including reporting suspicious persons and criminal activities.
Giwa added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and recover additional exhibits, after which the suspects will be charged to court.
