The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has intensified efforts to strengthen tax compliance and improve understanding of the Federal Government’s fiscal reforms by organising a two-day training programme for its officers and personnel across various cadres.
The training, held at the Service Headquarters in Abuja in collaboration with the Nigeria Revenue Service, brought together members of the Customs management team, Comptrollers, Superintendents, and junior officers to deepen their knowledge of the country’s evolving tax administration framework.
Speaking at the opening of the programme on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Kikelomo Adeola, said the training was necessitated by recent changes in Nigeria’s tax policies.
She noted that as a key revenue-generating agency, the Customs Service must remain informed about evolving tax regulations to ensure compliance and maintain professionalism in revenue collection.
“As a Service entrusted with a critical role in national revenue generation, we must remain abreast of evolving tax policies and ensure strict compliance with our statutory obligations,” Adeola said.
She added that the training was designed to equip officers with the knowledge required to navigate the new tax regime effectively while upholding transparency, accountability, and public trust.
According to her, tax compliance goes beyond statutory obligations and reflects the Service’s commitment to supporting national development through efficient revenue administration.
Also speaking, Assistant Director of Tax at the Nigeria Revenue Service, Victoria Udo, highlighted the importance of the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) system as a reliable means of personal income tax collection.
She encouraged participants to actively engage during the sessions, noting that a better understanding of the new tax laws would enhance their effectiveness in carrying out their duties and improve compliance across the public sector.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts by the Customs Service to align its operations with emerging fiscal reforms and strengthen its role in supporting government revenue generation.
