The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa, CAPPA, in partnership with Corporate Accountability, CA in the United States, is set to launch the Africa Make Big Polluters Pay, MBBP Storytelling Platform.
This new platform will offer a unique space for African communities affected by climate change and environmental exploitation to share their stories in the ongoing fight for climate justice.
It also aims to expose the detrimental effects of transnational corporations’ extractive practices on Africa’s environment, challenge false solutions, and advocate for sustainable alternatives across the continent.
Executive Director of CAPPA, Akinbode Oluwafemi, emphasized the importance of this initiative saying that with the global politics surrounding climate justice in the Global South, a platform like this is crucial.
Oluwafemi noted that it provides clear evidence to bolster calls for reparative compensation, addressing both economic and non-economic losses endured by affected communities.
The launch event will feature presentations on “Snippets from the Ayetoro Documentary” and “Maximizing Media Opportunities in African Climate Change Stories,” alongside pre-COP29 activities and messages of solidarity from MBPP partners.
The hybrid press conference will host notable speakers, including Neima Hellen, Africa Climate Director at Corporate Accountability and MBBP Coordinator, and activists from various African nations, including Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, Ghana, and Uganda.
This coalition of voices reflects the continent-wide support behind the MBBP Storytelling Platform, signaling a significant step forward in Africa’s push for accountability and climate justice.
