SAFER NIGERIA: MINISTER OF STATE FOR POLICE AFFAIRS, IMAAN SULAIMAN-IBRAHIM SET TO HOST TOWNHALL SECURITY MEETING IN LAGOS ON 11TH DECEMBER, 2023.

The Minister of State, Police Affairs, Hon. Imaam Sulaiman-Ibrahim is set to host a town hall security meeting aimed at strengthening the community policing strategy and capacity in the country. This is geared towards the upliftment of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially in the area of security.

In a statement obtained by Blacktalker, the crucial Townhall Security Meeting which will hold on Monday 11th December is themed: “Community Policing: Building a Safer Nigeria Together.” The meeting will yield several significant outcomes, including enhanced collaboration among stakeholders, actionable policy insights, strengthen public trust in policing efforts, and the development of concrete strategies for community policing, which are all in alignment with the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Police Transformation Agenda.

The Honorable Minister, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has hit the ground running since her appointment in the Police Affairs ministry with innovative ideas and winning solutions. Her most recent approach to policing is the forum which ‘aims to foster an environment of collaboration and commitment to achieving a safer Nigeria through effective policing and community engagement. The Townhall Security Meeting is envisioned as a dynamic and inclusive platform that seeks to encourage open dialogue and collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement bodies, and the community.’

The statement personally signed by the Minister added: ‘The key themes to be discussed during the event include exploring community-driven policing models, fostering partnership between law enforcement agencies and local communities and highlighting strategies for continual development of the Nigeria Police ecosystem to ensure professionalism and adherence to human rights standards.’

In the light of this, the Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan who is renown for his thorough commitment to supporting security agencies in the country alongside Remilekun Banigbe have been saddled with the task of contact and mobilization of policy stakeholders across all sectors to attend the Townhall Meeting.

The Minister thus called on all policy stakeholders to take the Townhall meeting of priority attendance. ‘I will appreciate your presence at the Townhall, as we engage with cross sectional members of the Lagos community. Your insights will contribute significantly to the shared vision for community policing and identification of actionable strategies to further strengthen public trust. I look forward to your esteemed presence and participation in this gathering will be invaluable in charting a course toward achieving our shared goals of a safer and more secure Nigeria.’

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, has advocated placing conversations around security funding in the front burner with the engagement of every stakeholders including citizens, business owners, corporate bodies and the government.

Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr. Abdulrq Balogun made this call at press conference ahead the seventeenth Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security with the theme: SECURITY COMPLEXITIES AND CONVERGENCE: THE LAGOS IMPERATIVES.

Dr.Balogun, who said there is need for all stakeholders to take a decisive stance towards security funding, noted that government institutions can not do it alone, hence the need for conversations on the way forward for the provision of enough resources.

On the forth coming Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security, which is scheduled for the 12th of December 2023 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island at 11am, the LSSTF Boss said the event is an avenue for the Agency to render its stewardship to Lagosians, while the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command will also give a report on the activities, challenges and achievements of the Command in the year under review.

According to him, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is the host, will be reeling out his administration’s policies and security initiatives and answer questions from guests as it relates to security.

Also speaking, Executive Assistant, LSSTF, Adaobi Nwankwo noted that apart from direct donation on the Agency’s website, stakeholders can support the Fund, by providing useful Intel to security agencies and undertaking renovation of infrastructural security projects among others.

Nwankwo, who said the event is strictly by invitation, noted that the general public can join the conversation live on the Agency’s social media platforms on Instagram and X ( formally Twitter) on followlsstf and also on the Lagos State Instagram handle on lagosstategovt with the hashtag #17thtownhallmeeting.


On his part, Admin Director of LSSTF, Degbola Lewis described the theme of the Town Hall Meeting: SECURITY COMPLEXITIES AND CONVERGENCE: THE LAGOS STATE IMPERATIVES as apt being that
like most other populous cities, Lagos is equally faced with security challenges such as armed robbery, kidnapping, public disorder, street crime and extortion, highway robberies, piracy among others that have become even more complex since the emergence of technologies and Artificial intelligence.

Blacktalker report that this year, the Fund seeks to focus on the Complexities and Security Convergence and how it can build on capacity and come up with strategies to mitigate security challenges particularly in Lagos State.

The seventeenth Lagos State Security Trust Fund Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security will have in attendance representations from every sector of the economy and civil society in the state, including security chiefs, heads of safety and security agencies as well as security professionals.

2025 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION: LAGOS STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION MEETS INEC, RECEIVES VOTER REGISTRATION DATASET.

Ahead the 2025 Local Government election, the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC has received the compiled voter registration data from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Receiving the data, Director of Operations and Logistics, Gbadegesin Ademola, representing the Office of the Permanent Secretary at LASIEC, highlighted the constitutional empowerment of LASIEC to collect the data from INEC.

Ademola stressed the importance of the early collection of data, which provides ample time for thorough preparations in the unique Lagos electoral structure, which consists of twenty Local Governments, thirty-five Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs and three hundred and sixty-seven Wards.

On his part, Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ayobami Salami, underlined the collaborative tradition between INEC and LASIEC, while expressing optimism for a free and fair election in Lagos, which he said will contribute to the democratic process in the country

Salami added that data being handed over contained names of seven point six million one hundred and ninety-five voters across two hundred and forty-five registry areas and thirteen thousand, three hundred and thirty-five polling units.

The Safe Schools Lagos, SSLAG, an initiative of the SchoolRun Academy Ventures for the Lagos State Government/Lagos State Safety Commission is shining its spotlight on the importance of placing children in safe schools.

The initiative’s vision is for every Nigerian child to have access to quality, safe education/learning and key opportunities by leading the change activities that would enable the creation of a sustainable learning culture.

SSLAG was also borne out of the keenness of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure children are safe at all times, sanitise the education sector, thereby creating a secure and safe learning environment which potentially allows students and staff to focus on the business of learning, while also allowing parents and other stakeholders play active role in keeping children safe.

Project Lead, SSLAG, Dr. Bisi Esuruoso, who spoke at a Parents’ Watch Hangout organised recently by the SSLAG with the theme: “BEACON OF SAFETY STATUS IN SCHOOLS; Implications of Placement of Children in Safe Schools” described a Safe School as where the Physical, Academic and disciplinary environments are well managed, supportive and fair.

In her presentation, Dr. Esuruoso, who highlighted guidelines/tips that parents/guardians must look out for before enrolling their wards into any school in the state, stated that students must feel safe, respected and free from various forms of adversities such as bullying, discrimination and harassment.

”Overall, the concept of “Safe Schools” underscores the importance of nurturing a positive and respective atmosphere for students to thrive academically and personally. Hence, cognitive/personal development and survival skills must be taught as part of school etiquette” she said.

The Project Lead urged parents to always visit the SSLAG website www.safeschoolslagos.ng to look up schools/facilities of learning that have earned the Beacon of Safety certification before enrolling their ward.

Etiquette Consultant and guest speaker, Mrs Bimpe Nwabudike addressed the issue of etiquette as it concerns parents/children, saying washing of hands, dental hygiene, nail care, personal hygiene( bathing and showering), table manners, respects( greetings), sleep( maintenance of proper sleeping patterns) are to be instilled into children by their parents.

In her words” The journey of parenting is both a privilege and a responsibility and by actively shaping our children’s behaviour, instilling proper etiquette, prioritizing, their safety, and positively influencing their education, we are not just preparing them for the world , they are becoming contributor to a society built on respect, compassion, and knowledge”.

The Parents’ Watch Hangout had in attendance Special Education Needs Expert, Mrs Nne Oramasionwu, school administrators, parents, school owners, principals, education enthusiasts, safety personnel among others.
