The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 suspected cultists and recovered five firearms in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
The crackdown, carried out in Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Okoko, Ilasan, Ogba, and Iju, is part of ongoing efforts by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, to curb cultism and violent crimes.
According to the Command, the operations led to the recovery of five locally made pistols, a toy pistol, 15 live cartridges, three expended cartridges, and other items including police and army camouflage caps, as well as a jack knife.
In Ikorodu, four suspects were arrested following intelligence reports linking them to cult activities, with preliminary investigations indicating ties to the Buccaneers Confraternity.
On Lagos Island, nine suspects were apprehended during a raid on a criminal hideout, while five others were arrested in Ilasan in connection with the killing of one Emmanuel Obioson.
In Okoko, police intercepted a suspect linked to the Eiye Confraternity who was found in possession of a firearm.
Similarly, in Ogba and Iju, four suspects were arrested for involvement in illegal cult gatherings and violent attacks, with weapons recovered from the scene. Victims of the attacks are currently receiving medical treatment.
The police said the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, Fatai urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible information.
He also encouraged members of the public to make use of the Command’s emergency lines to report suspicious activities.
