Operatives of the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Chidi Ebere, over the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Igbesa area of the state.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, April 8, 2026, involved the victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, who was reportedly attacked while conveying the suspect on his motorcycle.
According to police sources, the suspect allegedly boarded the motorcycle as a passenger before launching an attack on the rider in an attempt to dispossess him of the bike, leading to a violent struggle.
A witness at the scene reportedly raised the alarm, attracting the attention of nearby residents and security operatives. The victim was subsequently rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene, while the motorcycle and a knife believed to have been used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.
Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act and assured that justice would be served.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
