National Police Day: Maritime Police Sensitise Boat Operators, Waterway Users in Lagos

The Maritime Police Command has carried out a sensitisation exercise for boat operators and waterway users in Lagos as part of activities marking Day 3 of the 2026 National Police Day celebration.

The exercise, led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, Okunade Ronke Nurat, took place at the NIWA Jetty, CMS.

Okunade noted that the initiative conducted in collaboration with the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, focused on educating stakeholders within the maritime sector on safety standards and regulatory compliance.

She urged boat operators and other waterway users to observe best operational practices, highlighting the importance of maintaining cordial relationships with law enforcement, and the need for collective responsibility in ensuring safety across inland waterways.

The sensitisation forms part of broader efforts by the Maritime Police Command to strengthen community partnership and enhance safety within Nigeria’s waterways, in line with the theme of this year’s National Police Day celebration.
