In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026, the Florence Osarentin Development Initiative, FosaDev has empowered rural women and vulnerable groups in the NIFOR community through a one-day outreach focused on healthcare access and economic support.
The programme, themed “Empowering Women for Equal Opportunity,” aligns with the UN Women campaign “Give To Gain,” which advocates collective action through generosity and collaboration to advance gender equality.
Speaking at the event, FosaDev’s Executive Director, Eweka Yvonne, said the initiative was established in 2024 to bridge inequality gaps in underserved communities through advocacy, health, and education.
She noted that the organisation also seeks to sustain the vision of the late Osarentin Iyamu Emabino, who was committed to community development.
The outreach brought together small business owners and community members, offering free health services including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as well as counselling on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and family planning. Over 100 beneficiaries received medical attention and health education from qualified professionals.
FosaDev, in partnership with Marie Stopes International, also distributed sanitary pads, clothing, and other essentials to women and girls, reinforcing the organisation’s belief that access to basic needs and healthcare is a fundamental human right.
Beyond healthcare, the organisation extended economic support by awarding non-refundable mini grants to three women entrepreneurs. Presenting the grants, FosaDev Team Lead, Sonata Eweka, encouraged beneficiaries to adopt sound financial practices and leverage growth opportunities, noting that they would receive ongoing mentorship from SME experts.
Participants described the initiative as impactful, particularly in addressing both health and economic challenges faced by women in rural communities.
FosaDev reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s rights and socio-economic justice through sustained interventions in education, health, and advocacy, aimed at empowering communities to thrive.
