The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, LIRS has extended the deadline for filing individual annual income tax returns by two weeks, shifting it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
The extension was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, who noted that the statutory deadline for filing returns remains March 31 each year.
According to him, the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns in line with regulatory requirements.
Subair emphasised the importance of timely compliance, urging individuals to make the filing of annual income tax returns a routine personal obligation.
He also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submission, as manual filings have been fully phased out.
Describing the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible round the clock, the LIRS boss advised taxpayers to ensure that their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered when filing their returns.
The agency urged residents to take advantage of the extension window to fulfil their tax obligations and avoid penalties.
