The Lagos State University, LASU, has organised a one-day in-house training programme for its career drivers, aimed at promoting driving etiquette, professional conduct, and road safety across its campuses.
The initiative was led by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) in collaboration with the Directorate of Staff Welfare, Training & Development, and took place on Saturday, 14th March 2026, at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Professor Oseni Afisi, said the training reflects LASU’s commitment to holistic staff development.
She stressed that drivers carry not only their own lives but also the lives of passengers, pedestrians, and other road users, adding that “safe roads begin with safe drivers.”
The programme focused on three key pillars: knowledge of traffic laws and vehicle mechanics, practical driving skills, and professional character and discipline.
Presenters at the training included Mr Modupeore Macaulay of LASTMA, who addressed traffic management and congestion techniques, and Mr Ayodele Ologun, representing the Federal Road Safety Corps, who spoke on vehicle maintenance and road safety.
Other sessions covered professional conduct, effective communication, etiquette, and driver health and wellness, delivered by LASU faculty and staff welfare officials.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin noted that the weekend schedule allowed drivers from Ojo, Epe, and LASU College of Medicine campuses to participate.
The training marked the first time career drivers from all campuses came together for structured professional development, underscoring the university’s dedication to staff training and capacity building.
