LSFRS Contain Fire Outbreak at Alakoro Ejalonibu Market, Lagos Island

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Alakoro Ejalonibu Market, Oke Arin, in the Ebute Ero axis of Lagos Island Local Government Area.

Controller General of the Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call at about 2:42 p.m. and immediately mobilised firefighters to the scene.

She said crews arrived within minutes to confront the blaze, which involved a three storey commercial building used as warehouses, shops and storage facilities.

According to her, the fire later spread to an adjoining three storey structure located behind the initial building, also housing multiple shops and stores.

However, through coordinated firefighting operations and strategic deployment of resources, responders successfully confined the fire to the second floor of the primary building, while only sparse damage was recorded on the second and third floors of the adjoining structure.

Adeseye stated that fire crews from Ebute Elefun, Dolphin, Sari Iganmu and Alausa Fire Stations worked alongside the Federal Fire Service and other emergency responders, including the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Nigeria Police Force (Ebute Ero Division), Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

Their presence ensured effective crowd control, traffic management and overall public safety. No casualties were recorded, while preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The Controller General reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging market operators and residents to prioritise fire safety measures, including proper storage of combustible materials and prompt reporting of emergencies.
