The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Adewale Adeniyi, has launched a Green Channel initiative at the Lekki Deep Sea Port to simplify cargo clearance, cut delays and enhance operational efficiency.
The initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, is part of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, strategy to strengthen trade facilitation through technology-driven solutions and closer stakeholder collaboration.
Speaking at the launch, Adeniyi said the Green Channel was introduced by the Lekki Deep Sea Port and approved by NCS Management to address recurring challenges in container stacking and examination that often slow cargo processing at major ports.
He explained that under the new system, containers are moved directly from vessels to a dedicated location where importers can easily access them, while the movement is digitally tracked to ensure transparency and control.
“This intervention helps to move containers right from the vessel into a dedicated place where customers can have access. Between the time the container moves from the vessel to this place, it is tracked,” the CGC stated.
According to him, the Green Channel creates a dedicated corridor for compliant traders, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and ensuring faster turnaround time.
Adeniyi described the initiative as a product of growing trust between Customs and stakeholders, stressing that compliance and cooperation are critical to its sustainability.
He added that beyond improving port operations, the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of creating a more competitive trade environment by reducing the cost and time of doing business while boosting revenue generation.
