Police Arrest Eight Over Christmas Day Disturbance in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight persons over an alleged breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, and assault on police officers during a disturbance in parts of Sango-Ota on Christmas Day.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, in a statement said the incident occurred at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota, where a group operating under the name Democratic Republic of the Yoruba allegedly barricaded major roads, lit bonfires, and disrupted vehicular movement.

Police operatives deployed to the area were reportedly attacked while attempting to restore order. The command said officers swiftly dispersed the group and arrested eight suspects in connection with the disturbance.

Those arrested were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).

Exhibits recovered from the suspects included a Toyota Dyna vehicle allegedly used to convey them to the scene, two broadcast speakers, a carton containing flags, shirts bearing inscriptions linked to the group’s agitation, as well as banners displaying messages and a manifesto.

The police said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, warning that acts capable of breaching public peace would not be tolerated.

Ogunlowo also cautioned against attacks on law enforcement officers, stressing that such actions would attract decisive response, while urging residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
