The Lagos State Police Command has put comprehensive security measures in place to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
Acting in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the massive deployment of police personnel and operational assets to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the festive season.
The deployment includes conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives and marine police officers.
According to the Command, intelligence teams have been tasked with close monitoring of individuals or groups whose activities may threaten public peace, while marine officers have intensified patrols and surveillance across Lagos waterways to prevent criminal infiltration through water routes.
Special squads have also been strategically positioned across the state to deter security breaches. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Tactical Units have been directed to intensify patrols, ensure visibility policing and maintain round-the-clock surveillance across all parts of the state.
Officers on duty have been instructed to remain professional, courteous and firm in the discharge of their responsibilities.
To address traffic congestion and ensure free flow of movement during the festive rush, the Command has deployed over 5,000 police personnel for traffic management duties across major highways, inner roads and traffic-prone areas of the state.
As part of efforts to curb the recent upsurge in fatal road accidents, CP Jimoh convened a strategic meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside other security and safety agencies.
Participants at the meeting included representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Fire Service and the Federal Controller of Works. The meeting focused on developing sustainable measures to reduce road accidents and enhance public safety during the festive period.
In addition, joint police teams comprising conventional officers, tactical squads and intelligence units have been deployed to clamp down on traffic robbers, hoodlums and other criminal elements seeking to exploit the festive season.
Special attention is being given to places of worship, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks and other public places expected to witness high human traffic during the celebrations.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents and visitors of the Command’s unwavering commitment to security and urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant.
