LASU Secures NUC Approval for Two New Undergraduate Programmes

The National Universities Commission, NUC has approved the establishment of two new full-time undergraduate programmes at Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The newly approved programmes are: Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A. Ed.) Music Education and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Social Studies and Civic Education.

The approval was confirmed in a letter dated July 17, 2025, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Mr. Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC.

It follows a resource verification exercise conducted by panels of experts to assess the availability of the required human and material resources at the institution.

The NUC emphasized that the approval is limited to full-time mode and encouraged the university to ensure that it maintains the standards expected of such academic programmes by providing sufficient staffing and facilities.

This development marks another milestone in LASU’s strategic efforts to expand its academic offerings and deepen its contribution to teacher education in Nigeria.

With the addition of the two new programmes, LASU continues to position itself as a centre of academic excellence.
