The Lagos State University, LASU, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, is set to launch its Innovation Hub on July 2, 2025.
The hub is designed as a catalyst for student entrepreneurship, research-driven solutions, and cross-sector collaboration, positioning LASU as a rising force in innovation and sustainable development across Nigeria.
The Innovation Hub aims to empower students, faculty, and stakeholders with tools, mentorship, and resources to develop market-ready ideas before graduation. It will also serve as an incubator for transforming student concepts and academic research into viable, scalable enterprises with national and international relevance.
Set up to operate across disciplines from science and engineering to the arts and humanities—the hub encourages collaboration between different fields to address real-world challenges.
The University said the hub reflects LASU’s commitment to strengthening the role of higher institutions in national development by preparing students with practical skills and exposure to business opportunities.
With support from UNDP, the facility is equipped with modern digital infrastructure, including ICT and multimedia resources, that will support idea incubation, creativity, and access to technology.
The shared workspace is intended to foster interdisciplinary partnerships and support the monetisation of student innovations through initiatives such as the LASU Digital Marketplace and weekly pop-up markets.
One of the major highlights of the launch will be an “Open Day” event, which will allow students who have registered their ideas to present them to experts, mentors, and potential investors.
The university has also extended invitations to private-sector leaders, policymakers, and development partners to explore opportunities for collaboration and investment.
In a statement, the university described the Innovation Hub as a long-term investment in Nigeria’s youth, one that will deepen civic engagement, enhance employability, and unlock creative solutions for local and global challenges. “We are creating a space where innovation thrives, where research doesn’t just sit on the shelf but finds expression in the marketplace,” the statement noted.
