Distinguished Emeritus Professor, Anetekhai Martins of the Lagos State University, LASU has urged attendees at the Lagos FASU Games 2024 to embrace excellence and sportsmanship, emphasizing the need for spirit of unity among African nations.
Prof. Martins made the call in a goodwill message to delegates, organizers, and participants of the 11th Africa University Games, hosted by LASU and the University of Lagos, UNILAG, from September 21 to 29, 2024.
In his message, Prof. Martins who retired from the department of Fisheris and Aquatic Biology congratulated the universities for their collaborative efforts in organizing the games amid economic challenges, emphasizing that this event represents a significant achievement for both institutions.
He noted the importance of the partnership between state, federal, and continental governments, highlighting it as a model for economic development across Africa.
“Sport has the power to transform lives,” Prof. Martins stated, encouraging participants to seize the opportunity not only to compete but also to network and explore avenues for entrepreneurship and leadership.
As the games commence, Prof. Martins expressed hope that the event would strengthen bonds and foster cultural exchange, paving the way for future collaboration and innovative development across the continent.
