JMG Limited Urges Engineering Students to Build Career Skills Before Graduation

Engineering students have been urged to complement academic qualifications with practical and professional skills, career planning and networking to improve their readiness for the job market.

The call was made by Recruitment Specialist at JMG Limited, Anthony Chikeluba Uzokwe, during the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Chapter induction ceremony held on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Uzokwe advised students to develop strong CVs, acquire relevant technical and soft skills and establish professional profiles on LinkedIn to expand their networks and improve access to career opportunities.

He stressed that deliberate preparation before graduation was essential to remaining competitive in today’s employment market.

“Students must be intentional about preparing for the careers they aspire to. Beyond academic qualifications, developing specialised skills, building a strong professional profile and creating meaningful networks are important steps towards becoming competitive in today’s job market,” he said.

The ceremony brought together aspiring engineers, academic representatives and industry stakeholders to induct new members into the professional body and discuss skills and opportunities shaping the engineering profession.

JMG Limited sponsored and participated in the event, providing students with industry perspectives on the transition from academic learning to professional engineering practice.

The company said its involvement reflected its commitment to engineering education, youth development and strengthening the talent pipeline for Nigeria’s engineering and industrial sectors.
