Engineering students of Yaba College of Technology have gained practical exposure to industrial operations during a factory visit to JMG Limited, aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional engineering practice.
The visit, organised for members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), YABATECH Chapter, on October 23, 2026, gave the students an opportunity to observe how engineering principles are applied in a working industrial environment.
Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at the institution who previously worked with JMG, said such experiences help students understand how classroom knowledge translates into practical applications.
“Experiences like this help students better understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how engineering principles are applied in industry,” Isiaq said, adding that observing industrial processes could help them appreciate the technical knowledge and skills required in their profession.
JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions in power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, solar energy and industrial applications.
The company’s Head of Marketing, Oluwatomi Faniran, said engagement between industry and academic institutions was important in preparing young engineers for the demands of professional practice.
She said such visits help students understand the technologies used in industry and how engineering solutions address practical business and industrial needs.
The engagement highlighted the role of industrial exposure in complementing academic instruction by allowing students to observe engineering applications beyond the classroom and gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations.
