Imole Media Team Trains 40 Young Creators Ahead of 2027 Elections

More than 40 young media enthusiasts in Mushin, Lagos, have received training in fact-checking, news reporting, digital content creation and media ethics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The training, organised by the Imole Media Team at its 2026 retreat on Saturday, October 24, was aimed at strengthening participants’ professional skills and promoting responsible communication across traditional and digital media platforms.

The retreat, themed “Creating a Creative and Professional Media Team,” featured sessions on photo and video journalism, storytelling, videography, video editing, content management, media ethics and digital media coordination.

Member representing Mushin Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. Fayinka Moses Oluwatoyin, urged participants to verify information before publication and avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims for online attention.

Fayinka, who was represented by the Imole Media Team’s Senior Team Lead, Tunde Ige, warned that the growing influence of social media made accuracy and professional ethics increasingly important.

“Social media is a space for everyone. We need regulation and fact-checking. Before you post or create content to go viral, make sure it is true and factual,” he said.

He also encouraged media practitioners to report objectively, rely on verifiable facts and figures, and give constructive attention to developments within their communities.

Fayinka also pledged to sponsor bills aimed at promoting youth engagement, capacity building and inclusion, according to the organisers.

Also speaking at the event, a legislative aide to Fayinka, Hon. Ayodele Olusegun Oyebanjo, , highlighted the media’s role in informing voters, communicating political programmes and shaping public discourse ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier, team lead of the Imole Media Team and convener of the Imole Youth Movement, Comrade Adebayo Abayomi, popularly known as Naijapasito, thanked Fayinka for sponsoring the programme.

Abayomi, who chaired the retreat’s Local Organising Committee, described the initiative as an investment in young people’s media skills and professional development.

He said the team planned to expand media visibility for Mushin and promote awareness of the activities and programmes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also reaffirmed the team’s commitment to providing media coverage for All Progressives Congress candidates at different levels.

The retreat featured sessions from media practitioners and community leaders, including Adewale Samuel Olowoporoku, Ilyas Babatunde Abubakar, newly appointed president of Mushin Odi Agenda, Yusuf Ogbara, chief executive officer of YUSLUV Media, Peter Oladele Olayinka and Fagbemi Ilesanmi.

Participants also received certificates in recognition of their participation.
