Customs Rehabilitates Healthcare Centre to Improve Access to Care in Osun Community

Residents of Modakeke, Osun State, are expected to benefit from improved access to basic healthcare following the rehabilitation and commissioning of a community healthcare facility by the Nigeria Customs Service.

The facility was commissioned on Saturday, October 24, 2026, as part of the Service’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting community development and improving residents’ well-being.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, was represented at the ceremony by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole.

Speaking through his representative, Adeniyi said the intervention reflected the Service’s commitment to complementing government efforts to improve public health infrastructure, particularly in communities where access to essential medical services remains a challenge.

He said the Nigeria Customs Service’s responsibilities extended beyond revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations to include contributions to the social and economic development of communities.

The Customs chief urged residents to take ownership of the rehabilitated facility, maintain its infrastructure and use it responsibly to ensure its continued benefit to the community.

The Ogunsua of Modakeke, represented by a member of the Modakeke Traditional Council, Chief Folorunsho Awoyomi, commended the Service for the intervention, describing it as a welcome development for residents.

Awoyomi also highlighted the importance of partnerships between public institutions and host communities in addressing local needs and improving access to essential services.

Community members welcomed the rehabilitation, saying the facility would bring basic healthcare services closer to residents and ease some of the difficulties associated with accessing medical attention. They also called for effective management and maintenance to sustain its benefits.

The intervention forms part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s efforts to strengthen relations with host communities through social responsibility projects.
