JMG Highlights Equipment Quality as Nigeria Pursues Affordable, Clean Energy

JMG Limited says standards for energy equipment must be strengthened to ensure safety, reliability and value for consumers as Nigeria expands access to affordable and cleaner energy.

The integrated electromechanical solutions provider made the call during its participation in the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s (SON) 2026 World Standards Day Walk in Lagos on Saturday, October 17.

Members of JMG’s production team joined the walk, held under the theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy,” to promote the role of quality standards in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7.

The walk began at 7:30 a.m. at the SON Laboratory Complex in Ogba, highlighting the importance of standards in product safety, performance, consumer protection and industrial development.

JMG’s Plant Manager, Fouad El Chami, said quality considerations must be integrated into manufacturing processes to ensure products are safe, dependable and suitable for their intended purposes.

“Standards are not just requirements to be met; they help ensure that products are safe, dependable and fit for purpose. Quality must be considered from the beginning of the production process because it influences how a product performs and how confidently people can rely on it,” he said.

El Chami noted that as Nigeria explores opportunities to expand clean energy access, equipment quality would be essential to ensuring that investments deliver lasting value.

He said affordability must be considered alongside reliability, safety and performance, stressing that equipment and systems supporting the country’s energy needs must meet appropriate quality requirements.

The company noted that the performance of solar energy systems, power generation equipment, electrical infrastructure and cooling solutions depends partly on sound engineering, appropriate installation and consistent quality practices.

JMG provides electromechanical solutions across power generation, electrical infrastructure, cooling systems, elevators and escalators, and air compressors.

Its participation in the annual walk reflects support for SON’s efforts to strengthen quality standards across Nigerian industry and promote consumer confidence in locally available products and services.

The company said manufacturers and other industry stakeholders must treat quality standards as an essential part of sustainable development, particularly as Nigeria seeks to expand access to reliable and modern energy.
