Lagos Closes Ejigbo Fire Station Indefinitely After Attacks on Personnel

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has closed its Ejigbo Fire Station indefinitely following reported repeated assaults on firefighters, raising concerns about emergency response operations and the safety of personnel.

The service said some individuals attacked personnel on duty at the station on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, and the incident was reported to the Ejigbo Police Station.

The alleged attackers reportedly returned on Friday, October 16, and assaulted personnel again, disrupting operations despite the intervention of senior police authorities.

Controller General of the service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, condemned the reported attacks, warning that violence against emergency responders could compromise operational readiness, delay interventions and put residents at risk.

She said firefighters must be able to carry out their statutory duties without intimidation, violence or unlawful interference.

As a precaution, the service said personnel and firefighting equipment attached to the station would be temporarily redeployed to an undisclosed location while the security concerns were addressed.

Adeseye called on relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents and take appropriate action against anyone found responsible.

The service said it remained committed to maintaining emergency response operations across Lagos State and would work with relevant authorities to ensure its personnel could perform their duties safely.

It also urged residents to respect emergency responders and refrain from obstructing or intimidating them while they carry out their lawful responsibilities.
