Dangote Group President, Aliko Dangote says investors applying for ₦50,000 or less in the Dangote Refinery initial public offering (IPO) will receive priority as the company seeks to widen public participation in its ownership.
Dangote made the announcement during the final leg of the nationwide IPO roadshow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where investors, financial market experts and business leaders discussed the offer and the refinery’s economic impact.
“We will prioritise people with ₦50,000 and below,” he said, describing the IPO as an opportunity for Nigerians to own shares in a major industrial enterprise built locally.
Dangote said the offering would enable Nigerians to participate directly in a project he said was creating jobs, value and opportunities, while encouraging a stronger savings and investment culture.
He urged prospective shareholders to take a long-term view of the investment, saying wider participation in the capital market could promote financial literacy and broaden access to wealth creation.
Economist Bismarck Rewane said the South-South region needed to translate its resource base into sustainable prosperity, infrastructure development and improved living standards. He also described the IPO as an opportunity to encourage greater public participation in Nigeria’s capital market.
Another economist, Muda Yusuf, said the refinery could support economic diversification, domestic value addition, energy security, capital formation and employment across sectors such as petrochemicals, packaging, manufacturing and logistics.
Yusuf also stressed the importance of policy consistency and regulatory stability in sustaining investor confidence and attracting long-term capital into Nigeria’s industrial sector.
Stakeholders at the event urged prospective investors to assess the refinery’s operational performance, valuation and long-term business fundamentals before making investment decisions.
Business leader and legal practitioner Paul Usoro welcomed the participation of investors from the South-South region, urging them to take advantage of the offering.
The Port Harcourt engagement concluded the refinery’s nationwide IPO roadshow, which was organised to raise awareness of the offer and encourage wider investor participation.
