Fidelity Bank Donates 2,000 Food Packs to Abeokuta Residents

Fidelity Bank Plc has donated more than 2,000 food packs to residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to alleviate hunger and support vulnerable households through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative.

The distribution exercise, held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cathedral, Itesi, Adatan, Abeokuta, was organised under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at improving access to essential food supplies in communities.

Speaking at the event, Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, said the bank had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since the initiative was launched in 2023.

Jemirin said the initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on achieving Zero Hunger, while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to creating positive social impact in its host communities.

“At Fidelity Bank, we remain committed to implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives that improve the living conditions of our host communities and contribute to sustainable development. Through our Food Bank Initiative, we are not only providing relief to vulnerable families but also supporting the global goal of ending hunger and ensuring food security for all,” he said.

He added that the bank’s interventions in Abeokuta extend beyond food distribution to areas including education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment, social welfare and other community development initiatives.

“This initiative is about more than distributing food items. It is about restoring hope, strengthening communities, uplifting families, and providing meaningful support that contributes to their wellbeing,” he said.

Jemirin also appreciated the Catholic Diocese and other partners for their support in making the outreach possible.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, commended Fidelity Bank for its continued investment in community development and support for vulnerable residents.

He said the initiative demonstrated the bank’s commitment to extending assistance to communities and collaborating with institutions such as the Church to achieve meaningful social impact.

Launched in 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has provided food support to vulnerable households across Nigeria through partnerships with religious institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders.

The initiative remains one of Fidelity Bank’s key social interventions aimed at alleviating hunger, supporting vulnerable communities and promoting inclusive development.
