Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation that led to the recovery of weapons, suspected hard drugs, military camouflage, 500 SIM cards, mobile phones, laptops and charms.
The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge corridor in Lagos.
Police said officers intercepted a Toyota Camry XLE saloon car conveying two suspects identified as Emmanuel John, 24, and David Godwin, 28.
A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
According to the police, preliminary interrogation revealed that both suspects confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Samuel Owubokiri, 25, Adetona Seyi, 20, and David Chigozie, 25.
Police said exhibits recovered from the suspects included military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops, charms and various substances suspected to be hard drugs.
The suspects also allegedly admitted during interrogation that they belonged to the Aye Confraternity.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that would assist the police in preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
The command also encouraged members of the public to report emergencies and suspicious activities through its designated emergency telephone lines as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and intelligence gathering.
