The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with Simplified IQ Labs Ltd to strengthen scientific and technology-driven approaches to noise pollution management and environmental compliance across Lagos State.
The agreement, signed at LASEPA’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, is aimed at improving environmental regulation through digital monitoring systems, enhanced public participation, and more efficient enforcement mechanisms.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, General Manager of LASEPA, Babatunde Ajayi described the collaboration as a significant step towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos through innovation and technology.
According to him, the partnership reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government to strengthening environmental governance by deploying transparent, efficient and digitally enabled regulatory systems.
He explained that the agreement will modernise noise pollution management through the introduction of digital tools for environmental reporting, compliance monitoring, documentation and enforcement.
Ajayi noted that the initiative is consistent with the government’s strategy of promoting environmental responsibility through education, stakeholder engagement and sustainable compliance rather than relying solely on sanctions.
A major feature of the partnership, he said, is the introduction of mandatory digital environmental training and assessment programmes for individuals and organisations found violating noise pollution regulations.
Under the framework, offenders will be required to undergo environmental education and compliance training designed to improve awareness of environmental laws and encourage responsible practices.
The General Manager further disclosed that the collaboration would establish a unified digital platform through which environmental infractions can be reported, monitored, tracked and resolved more efficiently.
He explained that participants who successfully complete the mandatory training and compliance process would receive verifiable digital certification, while residents would have greater opportunities to report environmental violations through the platform.
Ajayi described the initiative as transformative, saying it would enhance the agency’s capacity to deliver smarter and data-driven environmental regulation.
“Integrating digital technology into environmental enforcement will improve transparency, accountability, compliance monitoring and public confidence in the agency’s operations,” he stated.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Simplified IQ Labs Ltd, Sam Obi, said the partnership demonstrates Lagos State Government’s commitment to adopting innovative solutions that strengthen environmental protection and promote compliance through education, technology and collaboration.
He noted that digital solutions would help improve environmental management while encouraging behavioural change among individuals and organisations.
In her remarks, Director of the Noise Control Unit at LASEPA, Abosede Natufe, urged residents, businesses, institutions and religious organisations to support the initiative by embracing responsible environmental practices.
She stressed that collective efforts by all stakeholders are necessary to achieve a cleaner, quieter, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
