Lagos Police Assure Adequate Security for Upcoming LASIEC By-Elections

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents and stakeholders of adequate security arrangements ahead of the forthcoming councillorship by-elections scheduled to hold on June 23, 2026, in parts of the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, gave the assurance while receiving officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

Fatai reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order before, during and after the elections, stressing that sufficient security personnel would be deployed to ensure a peaceful, credible and hitch-free electoral process in the affected areas.

The CP expressed appreciation to the LASIEC delegation for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of strong institutional partnership and collaboration.

The LASIEC team, led by its Chairman, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd), had visited the Command to condole with the police leadership over the death of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and to congratulate Fatai on his appointment as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

During the meeting, the LASIEC chairman commended the Lagos State Police Command for its proactive role in previous elections and sought the Command’s continued support for the forthcoming by-elections.

The commission also informed the police of the planned councillorship by-elections in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area (Ward C), Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (Ward H), and Somolu Local Government Area (Ward F).

The police assurance comes as preparations intensify for the polls, with stakeholders expressing optimism that enhanced security measures will contribute to a peaceful electoral exercise.
