The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, stolen generators, and mobile phones during separate intelligence-led operations in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo.
The suspects, identified as Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq (alias “Okiki”), Mumuni Amodu (alias “Stone”), Abayomi John (alias “Ibafo”), and Adeboye Ojesina, were arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and Ibafo Division.
Police recovered a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.
In one operation, VCRU operatives dismantled a generator theft syndicate, recovering stolen generators and phones, while a suspected receiver of stolen goods and a motorcyclist alleged to have provided logistics support were also arrested.
Separately, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina in Wasimi and recovered firearms and ammunition allegedly used to threaten residents.
In Ibafo, detectives arrested a suspect allegedly involved in stealing forklift parts and later apprehended another man accused of receiving the stolen items.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the crackdown on criminal activities across the state.
Police said investigations are ongoing, while the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the probe.
