The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents, parents, and school authorities of the safety of schools and communities across the state following the circulation of a purported threat notice alleging plans by bandits to attack and abduct school children.
The Command said there is currently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack in Lagos State, urging members of the public to remain calm and avoid panic.
In a statement issued by the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, directed an immediate assessment of the situation and ordered the deployment of enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations within the state.
According to the police, personnel have been mobilised in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen security around schools, critical infrastructure, and residential communities to ensure the continued safety of residents.
The Command emphasised that Lagos remains secure and that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state.
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State. While every security concern is treated with the utmost seriousness, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the statement said.
The police further warned that the Command would not tolerate any attempt by criminals, bandits, kidnappers, or other miscreants to threaten public peace and security, stressing that anyone found engaging in activities capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Command also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that effective policing depends on active collaboration between law enforcement agencies and members of the public.
Residents were urged to promptly report suspicious persons, movements, objects, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency response lines.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and assured Lagosians that all hands are on deck to sustain the state’s security and ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
