Ogun Police Debunk Criminals Rumour in Ifo, Confirm Bus Occupants as Road Construction Workers

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a bus conveying suspected criminals was intercepted in Ifo, describing the claims as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

The Command clarified that the individuals aboard the vehicle were legitimate road construction workers engaged in the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ifo–Ibogun Road.

According to a statement issued by the police, security operatives responded swiftly after receiving intelligence on June 3, 2026, regarding a bus allegedly transporting suspected criminals along the Ibogun Road axis.

Police surveillance and anti-robbery teams were immediately deployed to the area, where they discovered that the bus had been stopped by some youths who suspected its occupants of criminal activities.

However, investigations revealed that the vehicle was carrying 21 labourers employed by a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the federal road project.

The police said further verification confirmed that the workers were legitimately engaged on the project and had no links to any criminal activity.

“The report linking them to criminal activities was found to be false and unfounded,” the Command stated.

Following the verification, police officers assured the workers of their safety and provided an escort to their work site to prevent any further harassment or disruption of their duties.

The Command also cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of creating fear, panic, or exposing innocent citizens to unnecessary suspicion.

It urged residents to rely on credible and official sources of information, particularly on security-related matters, and to report suspicious activities through appropriate channels rather than circulating unconfirmed reports on social media.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ogun State while encouraging continued cooperation between residents and security agencies in the interest of public safety.
