Polaris Bank has marked the 2026 World Cancer Day with the launch of a nationwide free breast cancer screening programme for 100 women, reaffirming its commitment to community health and social impact.
The initiative, announced ahead of World Cancer Day observed on February 4, is being implemented in partnership with the Care Organization and Public Enlightenment (C.O.P.E). It is aimed at promoting cancer awareness, early detection, screening and preventive care across communities.
As part of the programme, the bank will offer comprehensive breast cancer screening for women across Nigeria, while also sustaining its ongoing free prostate cancer screening initiative for 250 men aged 40 years and above nationwide. The prostate cancer screening is being conducted at the Men’s Clinic, 18 Commercial Avenue, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
According to the bank, both initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5 on Gender Equality, and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration with civil society organisations.
In addition to the screenings, Polaris Bank said it will deploy educational materials, community engagement activities and digital awareness campaigns to promote early detection, healthy lifestyle choices and regular medical check-ups.
Speaking on the initiative, the Group Head, Brand Management and Corporate Communications at Polaris Bank, Rasheed Bolarinwa, said early detection remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against cancer. He noted that the bank is focused on removing financial barriers and bringing essential health services closer to communities.
The flagship breast cancer screening exercise is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the C.O.P.E Centre, 39B Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The exercise will be conducted by trained health professionals and volunteers, with participants also receiving education on cancer prevention, self-examination and follow-up care.
Participation in the breast cancer screening is open to women who are Polaris Bank account holders, with pre-registration required. Selection will be based on early and confirmed submissions via the registration link: bit.ly/BCS2026.
While the breast cancer screening targets women, the bank encouraged men to support the health of their families by urging eligible female relatives to participate. Men are also invited to take advantage of the ongoing free prostate cancer screening at the Men’s Clinic in Sabo, Yaba.
