The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, DC Moses Adewole has embarked on a familiarisation tour of key traditional institutions in the Command’s jurisdiction, visiting the palaces of the Onigbeti of Igbeti, the Iba of Kishi, and the Okere of Saki.
The initiative aims to deepen collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS and local communities.
At the palace of the Onigbeti of Igbeti, Oba Engr. Bashir Olalekan, the Ag. CAC and his team were warmly received by the monarch and his council of chiefs.
The Onigbeti acknowledged the NCS’s critical role in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and the suppression of smuggling, while assuring the Controller of the community’s continued support in sensitising residents on the economic consequences of illegal trade.
Responding, DC Adewole commended the community for its cooperation and emphasised the importance of partnerships in promoting operational efficiency, discouraging youth involvement in illicit trade, and addressing social vices such as drug abuse.
During the visit to Kishi, DC Adewole praised the community for its engagement in local rice production and urged residents to avoid smuggling foreign parboiled rice, highlighting the presence of a functional rice mill in the area. The Iba of Kishi, Oba Dr. Masoud Lawal Oyekola Aweda, welcomed the visit and reaffirmed his community’s commitment to lawful trade and support for Customs operations.
Similarly, at the palace of the Okere of Saki, Oba Dr. (Surv) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Ayinla received the Ag. CAC alongside other security officials.
The monarch commended the vital role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and applauded the law-abiding nature of the people of Saki. He also called for the establishment of a Customs presence in the area to further enhance trade facilitation.
