The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has announced that nationwide ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number, NIN, will commence on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The Commission says the move follows a presidential directive mandating it to take NIN registration to the grassroots across all wards in the country.
According to NIMC, the exercise is aimed at ensuring the comprehensive registration of every Nigerian citizen and legal resident, including children and adults, into the National Identity Database.
The Commission emphasized that enrollment will be conducted free of charge as part of the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focused on inclusive governance, national development, and improved access to identity services.
NIMC described the ward-level initiative as a strategic effort to deepen identity inclusion, decentralize services, reduce travel burdens, and improve access to registration at the community level.
The Commission disclosed that it has begun engagement with stakeholders at national, state, and local government levels to ensure smooth implementation. These include state governments, local government authorities, traditional rulers, community leaders, market associations, and faith-based organizations.
Members of the public are encouraged to take advantage of the exercise by enrolling themselves and their family members.
