As part of the ongoing 2026 National Police Day activities, the Lagos State Police Command has conducted a targeted sensitisation programme at Ojota Motor Park, focusing on public safety, national development, and responsible citizenry.
Marking Day Three of the celebrations, the programme engaged drivers on the dangers of electoral violence, cultism, gender-based violence (GBV), and the critical importance of safe driving practices.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, psc, mnips, delivered an extensive lecture on the provisions of the Electoral Act. He highlighted electoral offences such as vote buying or selling, ballot box snatching, impersonation, intimidation of voters or officials, and illegal possession of election materials.
CP Tijani emphasized the broader consequences of these offences on Nigeria’s democratic process and urged drivers to uphold the rule of law and contribute to peaceful elections.
Also addressing participants, Area M Commander, ACP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, sensitized attendees on the dangers of cultism, encouraging collaboration with the Police to curb its spread.
On gender-based violence, Officer-in-Charge, Gender Unit, ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem, provided a comprehensive lecture on its forms, societal impact, and the importance of timely reporting.
CSP Alli Yemisi, Officer-in-Charge, Motorpol 1, reinforced the importance of safe driving, urging drivers to obey traffic regulations, adopt responsible road behaviour, and ensure the safety of themselves and other road users.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to continuous public enlightenment and community engagement as key strategies to strengthen public trust, ensure security, and promote a safe environment for all residents.
