The Maritime Police Command has outlined a series of community-focused activities to commemorate the 2026 National Police Day, reaffirming its commitment to maritime security and public engagement.
Under the leadership of AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, the Command said this year’s celebration, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” highlights the importance of collaboration between the police and the public in ensuring safety and national development.
In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Command will participate in nationwide activities including environmental sanitation, medical outreach, public sensitisation campaigns, and other initiatives aimed at strengthening trust and improving service delivery.
According to the Command, activities commenced on Monday, March 30, with sanitation exercises around the Force Headquarters Annex, Kam Salem House, Obalende, and key jetties across Lagos.
A walkathon is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, from Kam Salem House to the State Marine Office on Awolowo Road, where a watercraft display will be held. This will be followed by stakeholder sensitisation on April 1, targeting boat operators, fishermen, and coastal communities within the maritime domain.
The programme will also include outreach to families of fallen officers on April 2, recognising the sacrifices of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The week-long activities will culminate in the grand National Police Day celebration in Abuja on April 7.
The Maritime Police Command used the occasion to commend the dedication and resilience of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening maritime security while fostering closer ties with communities as part of efforts to build a safer and more secure society.
