LSSTF Rehabilitates Armoured Vehicle Abandoned for Eight Years

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Ayo Ogunsan, has supervised the rehabilitation of an Armoured Personnel Carrier, APC that had been abandoned for about eight years due to severe mechanical faults.

The armoured vehicle, originally procured for the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), had reportedly suffered structural fatigue, mechanical breakdown, and electrical failure over the years, leaving it in a state of decay and out of operation.

Following his assumption of office, Ogunsan conducted an inventory of assets procured by the LSSTF for security agencies in Lagos and identified the APC among equipment requiring urgent repairs.

Engineers with specialised expertise were subsequently engaged to carry out a comprehensive overhaul of the vehicle, restoring its mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.

After weeks of technical work, the APC was successfully restored and subjected to operational tests. Ogunsan personally inspected the vehicle and expressed satisfaction with the quality of repairs carried out by the engineers.

The LSSTF boss attributed the rehabilitation to corporate and individual donations received by the fund during his administration, which has lasted a little over 100 days.

He commended the engineers for their efforts and also appreciated donors whose contributions made the project possible.

Ogunsan, however, warned that the neglect of assets procured for security agencies would no longer be tolerated, noting that agencies benefiting from LSSTF resources would be required to give periodic accounts of their usage and maintenance.

With the rehabilitation completed, the APC has been cleared to resume operations and is expected to strengthen the operational capacity of the RRS in responding to emergencies, high-risk operations, and patrol duties across critical parts of Lagos.

The Rapid Response Squad, a specialised tactical unit of the Nigeria Police Force, is funded by the Lagos State Government through the LSSTF to conduct intelligence-driven patrols and rapid interventions aimed at maintaining public safety across the state.
