The Lagos State Government has intensified its public safety campaign with the training of over 1,000 students in Agege on the proper use of emergency toll-free lines 767 and 112.
The sensitisation exercise, organised by the Lagos State Command and Control Centre, LSCCC, was held at State Junior High School, Oyewole, Agege as part of efforts to build a safety-conscious culture among young residents.
The initiative aligns with the state’s broader strategy to promote emergency preparedness and responsible response behaviour, particularly among students who play key roles in disseminating information within their families and communities.
The General Manager of LSCCC, Femi Kennedy Giwa, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Adeyinka Adeeso, described the programme as a critical step in equipping young people with life-saving knowledge.
According to the General Manager, early awareness and proper use of emergency lines are vital to saving lives and protecting property across the state. He emphasised that the numbers are toll-free and accessible at all times, while warning against hoax calls.
Giwa stressed that false alarms could delay responses to genuine emergencies and may attract sanctions, urging students to act responsibly when using the lines.
During the interactive session, students were trained on how to remain calm in emergency situations, provide accurate location details, and report incidents promptly.
Some of the students, including Awoseyin Tobiloba Emmanuel and Alamu Eniola Rebecca, expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that they would share the knowledge with their families and peers.
The school’s Principal, Olabimpe Balogun, commended the state government for the initiative, adding that it would have a lasting impact on students and improve safety awareness within the school community.
She also noted that the school is equipped with basic safety tools such as fire extinguishers and sand buckets.
As part of the outreach, students received branded educational materials, including exercise books with safety tips, water bottles, and pens to reinforce the campaign message.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to expanding safety education across schools and communities, in line with its T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, particularly in strengthening security, emergency response, and social development through proactive citizen engagement.
