The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Lagos Sector Command, has warned motorists to expect traffic restrictions and delays following the commencement of repairs on the damaged expansion joints of Kara Bridge, outward Lagos, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The reconstruction began on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to last approximately 14 days, according to the FRSC.
The command said the intervention was necessary to restore the bridge and improve safety for motorists using the busy corridor.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, allow additional travel time and avoid unnecessary trips through the Kara corridor during the construction period.
He also advised motorists to consider alternative routes, including the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway, Lekki-Epe Expressway and Abeokuta Expressway.
The FRSC urged road users to comply with traffic signs and instructions from its personnel and other authorised traffic officials deployed to the area.
Motorists were also advised to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances and avoid dangerous overtaking, indiscriminate lane changes, driving against traffic and unnecessary stopping on the expressway.
Commercial and heavy-duty vehicle operators were urged to exercise additional caution, while all motorists were advised to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
The FRSC said it had deployed personnel, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to manage traffic, respond to emergencies and minimise disruptions around the construction zone.
The command appealed to motorists for patience and cooperation, stressing that the temporary traffic challenges were necessary to deliver a safer and more durable Kara Bridge.
