The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has charged younger officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, to aspire toward global expertise in Post Clearance Audit, PCA.
Speaking at the conclusion of the five-day World Customs Organization, WCO, Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme on January 23, 2026, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, Adeniyi emphasised that mastering PCA techniques aligns professional growth with international best practices.
“For the younger officers here, this might be your first exposure to this kind of training. Post Clearance Audit is an emerging tool developed by WCO, and this is the best way to start your career,” Adeniyi said. “I want you to shape your aspirations toward becoming PCA experts in the future.”
The CGC described the programme as insightful and transformative, noting that practical sessions exposed officers to advanced audit tools and techniques, enhancing analytical capacity and operational effectiveness.
He noted that the knowledge gained would directly support trade facilitation while safeguarding national revenue and economic interests.
Adeniyi reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to continuous reform, international collaboration, and deployment of modern tools to ensure Nigeria’s customs administration meets global standards.
Commending the initiative, WCO Trade Facilitation Expert James Clark highlighted Nigeria’s progress in adopting modern customs practices and stressed the importance of institutional commitment, capacity building, and consistent application of PCA tools to achieve long-term success.
Clark said, “We are confident that Nigeria is well-positioned to deepen its gains if this momentum is maintained. Your engagement this week shows the determination needed to create a more effective and facilitative trading environment.”
The five-day WCO Accelerate Trade Facilitation Programme, funded by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) of the United Kingdom, ran from January 19 to 23, 2026. It focused on strengthening customs reforms, particularly Post Clearance Audit and risk-based compliance management.
The conclusion of the programme marks another milestone in the NCS’s ongoing efforts to promote ease of doing business, strengthen compliance, and position Nigeria as a competitive and reliable trading partner on the global stage.
