SIFAX Group and its Chairman, Taiwo Afolabi, have emerged major winners at the 2025 edition of the Maritime Industry Merit Awards, MIMA, clinching three prestigious honours in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria’s maritime sector.
At the awards ceremony held in Lagos, SIFAX Group was named Most Corporate Social Responsibility Friendly Company, while Afolabi received two individual accolades — Lifetime Maritime Award and Maritime Man of the Year.
Speaking on the selection process, the Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Media Limited, Elder Asu Beks, disclosed that Afolabi emerged Maritime Man of the Year after being overwhelmingly voted by stakeholders during a rigorous 60-day voting exercise.
According to the organisers, the awards reflect Afolabi’s enduring commitment to the growth of the maritime industry and his vision of positioning Nigeria as a leading maritime hub in sub-Saharan Africa.
Receiving the awards on behalf of the chairman and the company, Captain Ibraheem Olugbade, Executive Director of Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition.
He described the triple honours as a validation of Afolabi’s decades of transformational leadership and SIFAX Group’s sustained impact across the maritime and logistics value chain.
“These awards are deeply appreciated and serve as strong validation of Dr. Taiwo Afolabi’s contributions to the development of the maritime and logistics industry in Nigeria,” Olugbade said.
He added that the recognition also underscores the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and initiatives that positively impact communities and stakeholders.
