Lagos State’s security landscape is set for a major transformation as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF has secured a federal donor to fully fund the construction of new, modern Police stations across key locations in the state.
Construction has commenced immediately and will roll out in phases to cover additional stations over time.
The initial facilities are being developed at: Morogbo Police Division, Badagry, Elere Police Division, Agege, Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Yaba, Oko Awo Police Station, Jankara, Lagos Island, MAN Centre Police Station, Ikeja and a new Police Division in Ilasamaja
The geographic spread reflects a deliberate strategy to strengthen operational efficiency and response times across both urban and semi-urban corridors.
Under the leadership of LSSTF Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, the project demonstrates growing collaboration between public institutions and donor-backed initiatives to bolster internal security in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.
With a population exceeding 20 million residents and a daily influx of thousands, many existing Police facilities in Lagos face capacity constraints, outdated infrastructure, and inadequate work environments.
The new stations are designed to address these challenges with purpose-built structures equipped for modern policing needs. For example, the Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba will enhance intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and organized crime, while Morogbo Division in Badagry will strengthen border and coastal security along Lagos’ western corridor.
Divisions in Agege and Ilasamaja are expected to improve community policing and crime prevention, and facilities in Ikeja and Lagos Island will bolster law enforcement coverage for commercial hubs, financial institutions, and markets.
Beyond security, the upgraded infrastructure is expected to have wider socio-economic impacts by improving working conditions for officers, enhancing residents’ quality of life, and boosting investor confidence.
Since his appointment in October 2025, Dr. Ogunsan has prioritized partnerships with government, private sector actors, and development partners to ensure law enforcement agencies are better equipped to address evolving security threats.
The LSSTF’s ability to secure a single federal donor to fund six Police stations is being hailed as a testament to the Fund’s credibility, transparency, and strategic vision.
As construction progresses, the new stations are expected to set a benchmark for Police infrastructure development across Nigeria and pave the way for broader phased upgrades across the state.
