The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with illegal number plates, the misuse of dealer (temporary) plates, and the unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights across the state.
The renewed enforcement drive, the Command said, is aimed at safeguarding lives, preventing crime, and enhancing public safety.
Acting on credible intelligence, police officers have commenced intelligence-led checks on vehicles bearing fake, altered, covered, invalid, or improperly affixed number plates, as well as those unlawfully using dealer plates.
According to the Command, such vehicles are frequently exploited by criminals to facilitate illegal activities, posing significant threats to public safety.
Suspected offenders are being identified, arrested, and prosecuted in line with existing laws, while the operation is designed to proactively disrupt criminal networks and improve road safety.
To ensure professionalism and strict compliance with operational guidelines, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit, and the X-Squad have been deployed to provide oversight.
Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are also supervising enforcement activities within their respective jurisdictions to guarantee fairness, transparency, and accountability.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement officers, obey traffic and safety regulations, and refrain from patronising suspicious vehicles.
He also advised residents to use only recognised motor parks and designated pick-up points.
Ogunlowo reassured the public that the enforcement exercise is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but to prevent crime, maintain public order, and protect lives, while respecting the rights and dignity of all road users.
