The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media, claiming it depicts an incident that occurred on Sunday, December 21, 2025
In a clarification issued on Thursday, the Police Command stated that the image is a recirculation of a case that occurred in 2021 and has no connection to any recent incident in the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the photograph was originally linked to a 2021 case involving a suspect arrested for impersonating military personnel.
He noted that the incident was widely reported at the time, including by Vanguard Newspaper.
The police command stated that a reverse image search further confirmed the true origin of the image, describing the current claim as misleading and inaccurate.
DSP Babaseyi advised members of the public to refrain from sharing outdated or unverified information, warning that such actions could cause unnecessary panic and misinformation.
He urged residents to always verify news from credible and official sources before circulating it.
