The Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence, CRPSGBV at Lagos State University, LASU, in collaboration with UN Women has marked the 2025 edition of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The event, themed “Unite! To End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls”, was held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Acting Director of CRPSGBV, Prof. Igot Ofem, delivered the welcome address, commending the turnout and reaffirming the university’s commitment to justice, safety, and dignity for all members of the LASU community.
She stressed that activism is a continuous responsibility requiring vigilance, engagement, and collective effort.
Prof. Ofem, in her remarks, reiterated LASU’s dedication to a safe and inclusive academic environment, urging students, staff, and partners to actively contribute to building a community where respect and protection are prioritized.

The event featured insightful sessions addressing online safety and digital responsibility. Mrs. Omolara Akinyemi facilitated a session titled “Protecting Girls in Digital Spaces,” highlighting the risks young girls face online, including cyberbullying, harassment, and non-consensual image sharing.
She encouraged participants to uphold digital etiquette, respect personal boundaries, and foster empathy in online interactions.
Mr. Bolaji Ojediran, in his session “Boys as Allies: How Young Boys Can Lead the Fight Against Online Violence,” introduced the 3S Rule, stop the spread, Support the target, and Speak up to the source, as a framework for youth to combat digital abuse.
He emphasized the lasting impact of online misconduct, reminding participants that “the internet never forgets.”
Representatives from First Bank of Nigeria, including Mrs. Bukola Ajayi, Prince Oriuwa, Philip Omolaoye, and Rita Ifeanyi-Chukwu, provided practical guidance on financial safety in the digital space. Rita’s session, “Smart Money Moves: Spotting Online Scams,” focused on identifying fraudulent schemes and safeguarding digital identities.
The programme also showcased creative expressions to reinforce its message. Students from Zeka Private School delivered a spoken-word performance highlighting the dangers of digital violence, while The Gifted Arts staged the drama “The Apple,” portraying the consequences of online misconduct and the importance of reporting such incidents to the Centre.
A key moment of the event was the Badging of the Orange Ambassadors, recognizing individuals dedicated to promoting gender equality and advocating against all forms of violence.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Mrs. Akinyemi Olasunbo, Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary, who expressed gratitude to all speakers, partners, and participants for their contribution to the success and impact of the initiative.
