The Old Boys Association of Methodist Boys’ High School, MBHS, Lagos, Class of 2000, also known as the Millennium Set, is set to celebrate its Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years since the cohort left the historic institution.
Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the celebrations at the University of Lagos, Engr. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Jimoh, Chairman of the Millennium Set, reflected on the journey of the alumni, describing the milestone as a testament to unity, resilience, and the enduring legacy of MBHS Lagos.
“The Millennium Set is more than a cohort; it is a living community of excellence, discipline, heritage, and character,” Jimoh said. “Over the years, we have celebrated achievements, supported one another through challenges, and maintained the bonds of brotherhood that define MBHS Lagos.”
Highlighting the events planned for the anniversary, Jimoh revealed that the celebrations would include an Anniversary Lecture titled “Alumni Associations as Catalysts for Regenerative Patriotism in Nigeria,” to be delivered by Professor Muyiwa Falaiye, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), University of Lagos, on 6 December 2025.
The lecture aligns with the MBHS anthem’s call for leadership, integrity, and service, reflecting the values the alumni have sought to uphold in their personal and professional lives.
The Millennium Set will also honor iconic Old Boys who have contributed significantly to the school and society, including Akinbayo Adenubi (56/60 Set), Chief Rasheed Babatunde Fanimokun (59/63 Set), and Engr. Theophilus A. Oguntala (69/74 Set). Several members of the Millennium Set will also be recognized for their achievements and contributions.
In a bid to leave a lasting impact, the alumni are establishing a ₦25 million endowment fund, which will support academic prizes in memory of deceased members, covering subjects such as Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Accounting, as well as welfare initiatives for struggling members and the families of departed alumni.
The celebrations will culminate in a reunion luncheon, offering members an opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and strengthen the bonds forged during their time at MBHS Lagos.
Jimoh urged all members of the Millennium Set, both in Nigeria and abroad, to participate actively, emphasizing the importance of collective effort in sustaining the set’s legacy.
“Together we began this journey; together we must continue it,” he concluded, echoing the Yoruba proverb: “Àgbájọ ọwọ ni àfi n ṣọ ayà; ajẹjì ọwọ kan ò gbé ẹrù d’órí” – collective effort strengthens the chest; one hand alone cannot lift a burden.
