The Lagos State Government is set to hold the 5th Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference, with focus on key areas such as innovation in housing solutions, sustainable building practices, regulatory reforms, and investment opportunities.

The 5th Lagos Real Estate Marketplace Conference will be held on the 10th and 11th of December 2024 with the theme: ”Reimagining the Lagos Landscape: Ensuring Sustainable Real Estate Development Practices”.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barr. Bakarat Odunuga-Bakare, who disclosed this at a pre-event press briefing in her office explained that the 2day event will bring together an exciting lineup of speakers and panelists, including thought leaders, real estate developers, investors, policymakers, and regulators who will engage in deep, insightful discussions on these pressing issues.

Barr. Odunuga-Bakare highlighted Lagos’s position as one of the fastest-growing cities globally and a key economic hub in Africa. She noted that the real estate sector is integral to the state’s development, creating jobs, attracting investments, and advancing infrastructure growth.

“This year’s theme, ‘Reimagining the Lagos Landscape: Ensuring Sustainable Real Estate Development Practices,’ underscores our commitment to fostering growth that prioritizes safety, sustainability, and resilience,” she said.

The Special Adviser stressed the importance of addressing critical challenges in the sector, including the increasing demand for housing, environmental sustainability, and the integrity of built structures. She further underscored the need for greater transparency, accountability, and professionalism within the real estate industry.

According to her, through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a collective commitment to change, all stakeholders can overcome the challenges facing the real estate sector.

”The conference will also serve as an opportunity for industry professionals to explore new business opportunities, learn from each other’s experiences, and contribute to shaping the future of real estate in Lagos.

Barr. Odunuga-Bakare also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority, LASRERA. She noted that the agency is tasked with registering and regulating real estate practitioners in the state.

“By enforcing standards and encouraging compliance, LASRERA is working to ensure that only qualified professionals operate in the sector. This effort is essential in restoring confidence among stakeholders and avoiding past mistakes,” she said.

According to the Special Adviser, to checkmate sharp practices in the sector, over 3000 developers, agents, and real estate practitioners have been licensed and brought on board the Agency’s database, hence residents should visit its website to verify and authenticate practitioners before dealing with them.

She added that those found engaging in sharp practices stand the risk of losing their licenses, being blacklisted, and ban from practicing within the sector in Lagos, just as she highlighted success stories from about 3000 petitions received by LASRERA out of which about 500 million Naira has been recovered so far.
