Sir Kessington Adebutu has donated a permanent headquarters to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF and five pickup trucks to support security operations, marking his 91st birthday with contributions to public safety in Lagos State.
The new headquarters, inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ends nearly 19 years of the Fund operating from rented accommodation and provides a permanent base for coordinating private-sector support for security agencies across the state.
The building, named the Sir Kessington Adebutu Security Trust Fund Building, was completed approximately 10 months after its groundbreaking ceremony on December 22, 2025.
At the inauguration, Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, said his connection to Lagos dated back to 1948, when he arrived in the state at the age of 13 and lived in Okobaba.
“I consider myself blessed to have contributed my humble quota. I want to thank Lagosians for this opportunity because at the age of 13, I came to Lagos and lived at Okobaba from the year 1948, so inside me is a Lagos boy,” he said.
Adebutu described the donation as an expression of his commitment to public safety and service to humanity, adding that his achievements had created an opportunity to give back to society.
“Today I am 91, I am donating an institution, so I give all glory to the good Lord,” he said. “I have always believed that our blessings are not for us to enjoy alone but also to deploy to humanity.”
On his part, Governor Sanwo-Olu traced the LSSTF’s establishment to September 2007, during the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola, recalling that the Fund mobilised hundreds of vehicles in its early months to support security operations.
The governor praised Adebutu’s philanthropy, describing the new headquarters as evidence of what sustained collaboration between government and private individuals could achieve.
He also commended the LSSTF Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, for driving the project, noting that the state had held the land for about two years before progress gathered pace under the current leadership.
Earlier, Ogunsan said the headquarters fulfilled a longstanding ambition to provide the Fund with a befitting administrative base, while crediting Adebutu with responding to his appeal for support and thanked GoverSanwo-Olu for providing the land.
The LSSTF chief executive described the donation as a lasting contribution to security in Lagos and disclosed that Adebutu had also provided five pickup trucks in celebration of his 91st birthday.
“For 19 years, the Fund worked from a rented apartment,” Ogunsan said, adding that the new building would remain a significant milestone in his record of service.

Also speaking, LSSTF Board Chairman, Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti described the inauguration as the fulfilment of a long-standing institutional aspiration.
He urged the Fund to sustain the principles of accountability, donor confidence and private-sector participation that underpin its operations.
Adebutu’s latest contribution adds to a philanthropic record spanning education, healthcare, research and community development.
In October 2025, the University of Lagos inaugurated the Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu Research Centre at its College of Medicine to support research in tropical diseases, public health, genomics and biomedical innovation.
In 2024, he unveiled the DIAMED Centre, a diagnostic and medical facility in Lagos equipped with advanced technology, including a 3D mammography machine.
His educational contributions include the Sir Kesington Adebutu Media Resource Centre, a 350-seat facility donated to the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and inaugurated in October 2024, as well as school buildings valued at ₦85 million donated to the Ogun State Government in 2020.
In October 2025, Adebutu also announced ₦4 billion in development donations, allocating ₦1 billion each to Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North local government areas, and ₦1 billion to the Iperu Akesan Development Association.
The inauguration attracted government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, business leaders and members of the LSSTF board.
Those present included the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai; and other representatives of security agencies.
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, was represented by white-cap chiefs led by High Chief Lateef Ajose, while the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, was also represented.
The event also featured special birthday songs performed by gospel singer Dr Ajoke Olufunmilola Ogunsan, popularly known as Dr Ajokesings, in honour of Adebutu.
