The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has appointed Mr. Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut.

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has appointed Mr. Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut.

Kum, a seasoned test administrator and executive with more than two decades of experience at WAEC, is expected to bring extensive expertise in examination security, test administration, technology and branch management to the leadership of the Nigeria National Office.

He joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to become Senior Deputy Registrar in 2024. Before his latest appointment, he served as Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s Office.

Kum has held several operational and administrative positions across WAEC, including Head of Exams Security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi; Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano; Head of the Security Printing Department; Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja; Director of Administration; and Senior Deputy Registrar/Test Administration.

In his various roles, he has been involved in several administrative and technological innovations within the Council, including the establishment of the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre, introduction of Variable Data Prints and enhanced code security features in security printing, deployment of facial recognition biometric devices to replace council-wide attendance systems, and the delivery of Achievement Tests through Computer-Based Examination (CBE).

Kum has extensive experience in test development, examination security, test administration and branch and zonal office management. His contributions have earned him institutional commendations, accolades and awards within and outside the Council.

Born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, Kum hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State. He attended Baptist High School, Jos, before obtaining a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992.

He later obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2025 and is currently completing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution.

His professional career began in 1993 during his National Youth Service Corps deployment at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he served as Head of the Animal Production Unit.

He later taught at Baptist High School, Jos, between 1995 and 1998, serving in various capacities including Form Master, Labour Master, Classroom Teacher and Health Master. He received the Light and Life Staff Merit Award in 1998 before joining WAEC.

Kum has attended national and international trainings, symposia and conferences, including programmes in the United Kingdom. He has also published works in national and international volumes and presented academic and professional papers.

He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and has interests in travelling, swimming, reading and watching movies.
